Cronos Staking FAQ
Staking CRO lets you earn ~8.5% in annual rewards through inflationary issuance, transaction fees, and validator commissions. You’ll also gain governance rights to vote on proposals affecting the network.
Staking begins immediately after delegation—no warm-up period.
Rewards are not auto-compounded; you must claim and restake manually.
Unstaking has a 28-day unbonding period during which tokens are locked and do not earn rewards.
Only one validator can be delegated to per wallet.
Only the top 100 validators by bonded stake are active.
Validators can be slashed for double-signing. Delegators are slashed proportionally.
Over-delegation can dilute rewards if the validator performs poorly.
Staking rewards are distributed pro-rata after validator commissions are deducted. Rewards are paid out automatically in protocol, but not restaked unless manually re-delegated.
Validators must maintain reliable uptime, run secure infrastructure (typically with sentry node architecture), and participate in governance. There’s no formal self-bond minimum, but sufficient stake is required to enter the top 100 set.
Cronos uses the Cosmos SDK governance module for on-chain voting. Proposals typically begin in public GitHub threads and are discussed in open Discord and forum channels before being escalated to formal on-chain votes.
