Your ZETA Staking Guide for 2024

February 13, 2024

What is ZetaChain?

ZetaChain is a permissionless, Proof-of-Stake, and EVM-compatible omnichain Layer 1. The protocol connects applications built on ZetaChain to all other integrated blockchains within the ecosystem including even non-smart chains like Bitcoin. This gives ZetaChain application developers the ability to build out-of-the-box and cross-chain applications by deploying a single application on ZetaChain.

What to Know About ZetaChain Before Staking

The ZETA token is the first native asset and staking token on ZetaChain. It is also used to pay transaction fees for ZetaChain smart contracts and for moving value across other connected blockchains.

ZETA Token

The initial total supply of ZETA will be set at 2,100,000,000. The ZETA token will be used for staking on the network.

ZETA Governance

ZetaChain will be governed by ZETA token holders who stake. ZETA stakers will be able to propose and vote on changes to the network including, but not limited to:

  • Economic Parameters
  • New Chain Integrations
  • Validator Set Increase/Decrease
  • Network Upgrades

Key ZETA Staking Considerations

Before staking ZETA, it is important to understand a key staking consideration:

  • Unbonding period: 21 days

ZETA Staking Rewards

At the time of publication, the staking rewards rate (SRR) for ZETA staking is ~26%.

Choosing a Validator to Stake ZetaChain

Choosing the right validator for staking ZETA tokens is a critical decision for any investor seeking to optimize their rewards while minimizing risks. The role of a validator is pivotal in maintaining the network’s integrity and ensuring consistent rewards. This is where Figment stands out as a leading Staking-as-a-Service (StaaS) provider. With our robust and transparent infrastructure, we optimize for uptime and efficient network participation, both of which are crucial for maximizing staking rewards.

By choosing Figment as your validator for staking ZETA, you’re not just participating in network security and governance; you’re also aligning with a leader in the staking industry known for its reliability, security, and user-centric approach.

How to Stake ZETA

Open the ZetaHub

To get started staking ZETA, head over to the ZetaHub. The ZetaHub is ZetaChain’s native suite for staking, governance, and managing your ZETA tokens.

Click on the “Stake” tab

Head to the left-hand bar and click on the “Stake” tab. This is where we will begin the staking process.

Search for the Figment validator

In the search bar, type “Figment” to easily find the Figment validator. Click on the Figment validator to proceed.

Delegate ZETA Tokens

When you are ready to stake ZETA tokens, connect your wallet, and input the amount of ZETA that you wish to stake. After entering the amount, click on “Send ZETA to ZetaChain” and confirm the transaction in your wallet.

Once the transaction is confirmed, congratulations! You have successfully staked ZETA to Figment.

Claim Rewards

Once you have successfully delegated your $ZETA, you can view your delegations in the right-hand sidebar on ZetaHub. From there, you will have the option to “Claim rewards” for the accumulated rewards.

Figment’s Involvement with Zetachain

We currently run a Core Validator, Observer Validator, and a TSS Signer Validator to optimize for rewards on ZETA staking.

It is important to stake with a provider that is optimizing for rewards on ZETA due to how the chain distributes rewards:

  • 25% of rewards go to observers/signers and there will only be 9 of them in the validator set, Figment is one of the 9 observers/signers
  • 75% of rewards go to core validators
